Greg Cole’s regular membership in the lower class damaged his college experience in more ways than one. First and foremost, with his status in life progressing him to the lower part of the social pecking order, he had produced in him a sense of insecurity which impeded him to actively mingle with his fellow students who also happened to reside a “greener pasture. ” In his assert on the unsaid demarcation series between the abundant and the poor, it makes perfect sense why he didn’t even bother to make an effort. He saw university, as well as existence as a whole, within a negative perspective, thinking that they may have nothing preferable to offer him, or any people in his mother nature for that matter. This individual perceived gonna school as a routine to get a degree and a decent work to uphold his family—with high hopes that he could conserve them in the slum that they were in. Instead of going to school as a great assertion of his directly to education, Cole seemed to have seen it more of a responsibility that he had to satisfy. With this, he missed the most valuable point of going to institution, which is learning not only through books but through the entire university experience itself. Learning wasn’t exactly what he previously in mind whenever he took his seat inside his classes; every he had in mind was purchasing a license that could terrain him on the job definately not those inside the factory or maybe the mine exactly where most inside their class work.
