Within the last decade, college violence instances have drastically increased. Between 1997 and 1999, there is a rash of school shootings, the most notable occurring for West Paducah, Jonesboro, and Columbine. These kinds of examples are just a few circumstances in the long list of tragedy that occurs in the school setting. There is a broad spectrum of school violence and misconduct that keep institution officials in alert: handbook violations, drug use, nuisance, bullying, struggling and school shootings. With school physical violence on the enhance, administrators have to re-evaluate school plans to ensure security and safety for the students and personnel. The National Education Affiliation (NEA) helps policies developed by states, zones and educational institutions to properly address intimidation and harassment that lead to institution violence (NEA, 2002-2010). However some officials feel that a zero-tolerance stance is considered the most effective ways to combating intimidation and harassment in the university setting, the NEA will take the position of teaching school officials, parents, community members, and students within the effects of bullying and harassment. In an attempt to reduce bullying and harassment, the NEA works to promote college safety by presenting ways of “reduce and eliminate intimidation and harassment; expand access to counseling, anger management and peer mediation; provide methods for students to communicate with adults about rumours and hazards; and develop instruction that teaches beliefs like esteem and responsibility” (NEA, 2002-2010). The school environment is one of the most dependable environments for children today. Students should feel relaxed coming to school and should be permitted to learn in an environment cost-free for violence and dread. The NEA agrees with this statement and supports laws requiring declares, districts, and schools to look at plans to stop and interact to bullying and harassment happenings.
