In the poem “A Different History” by Sujata Bhatt, the poet addresses about culture identity, the value of language, and faith. Bhatt describes the history of India during the British colonization days, from her perspective – from the side from the oppressed. Her strong diction portrays her emotions clearly. The varied structure and develop between the two stanzas of the poem illustrates the differences involving the cultures and emotions she gets. Bhatt makes an impression of freedom and peace the moment she identifies her nation in the first stanza. The two lines, “Here, the gods roam widely, ” “Every tree is usually sacred” identify the Indian culture. They will represent the “old India”, before the Uk had overcome it.
