“The Glass Menagerie” Movie Review Essay

Anthony Harvey’s “The Glass Menageri”e was absolutely a movie to keep in mind. A movie to not forget to never enjoy again. Inside the entire life long this film I can just say I actually experienced two things; boredom and well, large boredom. The Glass Menagerie, was at first written by Tennessee Williams 66 years ago and it absolutely was the initially the playwright’s many Broadway successes. Williams is also accountable for classics such as A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on the Hot Container Roof. This kind of remake with the Glass Menagerie, did not carry out Williams any justice. The Glass Menagerie is a “memory play” and it was the first of its’ kind. To do this type of play, Tennessee Williams included many, precise level directions in his script. The stage directions-lighting, music, images on a screen-were important factors in setting the play separate and rendering it the success that it was. Inside the 1973 video remake yet , a lot of these stage directions were ignored, like the pictures on a screen, the lighting and the focus on character types. This removed the play of its individuality, leaving it plain and very lacking. Katherine Hepburn makes her T. V. Debut through this movie by playing Amanda Wingfield, the caring yet unrealistic mother of Tom(Sam Waterson) and Laura(Joanna Miles). Compared to the initial script with this play, the dialogue was basically in its entirety. Though the right words were delivered, We couldn’t support but wish they were delivered by other people. Amanda(Katherine Hepburn) spoke with such an unfamiliar and unintelligible accent that we probably only understood her for about one fourth of the video and Laura basically whispered everything, thus forget about being aware of what she stated. The only person I could actually understand was Tom, after an hour of painfully seeing this film, not only was I sympathetic of his poor heart and soul, but I had been fully supporting his decision of abandoning his family members. I don’t think that was supposed to happen. Some plays were never meant for the T. V screen, let’s make this one. You and your cash deserve better. So do yourself a favour watching the perform, where the props are all utilized, the characters are intelligible and the thoughts are well placed. Now, We can’t say that this film was every bad, it had been precise in dialogue but not much was altered in the story, totally it was organized well. Yet , you’re have to more than appropriate duologue to hold someone conscious.
