Aristotle thought that goodness can be natural and psychological: only a part of being human. • Virtue Values makes honest behaviour into the aim (telos) of your life. • Aristotle puts forwards ‘aretaic ethics’ (from the Greek arête – ‘excellence’), stating that developing a great character can be all-important, instead of following a set of prescribed honest norms. • The ultimate goal is eudaimonia (‘flourishing’), for any person who practises virtue will certainly feel happy and content. Aristotle on Happiness and Virtue (AO1 material) • Aristotle distinguishes between different types of enjoyment. Some seek basic desires, others honor and admiration, but the best thing is to be a lover of careful consideration. Aristotle relation this being a virtuous philosophical ideal. • A human being can be described as ‘rational animal’ able to contemplate and value the search if virtue.
