Life as a Spy During American Revolution Essay

Hello, my name is John Honeyman, and I i am a spy. It is 1777 on the diary. The real thing I actually do is spying for George Washington. You might ask me, why have I picked such a dishonest obligation? Why do I help the foes of the Top to which I have given a great oath? Well, let me make clear and perhaps you may not treat me personally as a cheat. At first, My spouse and i am discharged from the English army, so i am not really tied with my oath anymore. We am a married person living between Americans, thus i feel me personally American, but not British. I've seen so many injuries and untruths induced to the colonists by the English, that I started to be sympathetic regarding those genuine and hard-working people. I know and support the suggestions of liberty for which they are fighting and I believe that their struggle is just. This convinsion became also stronger when I had an reverance to be brought to George Wa himself this past year in Somerset, New Jersey. Previously after his first words and phrases I realized that this is a great person and a charming leader. His speech seemed so persuasive and his hope in triumph was so excellent that I realized that my work now is to serve this corageous man. He wanted me to stay my life and business in Trenton and to make further associates with the Uk. I have proven, that I i am a old-fashioned Tory to make them imagine me. All their confidence allowed me to freely maneuver inside the community and gather information about it’s garrison. Later on I was “taken prisoner” by the colonists and managed to “escape”. Nobody with the British suspected that being a “prisoner” I use shared the gathered info with Wa himself. Yet this was not the entire buisiness. I've fooled the British control by showing them, the continental military services would never care to assault Trenton, and he believed me. Yet right after Holiday of the previous year Washington has lead a power of 2400 men to attack Trenton and gain a important victory through this battle. When the battle was over We walked around the snowy battlefield covered with bodies of the dead. God, those people might have never died in case I did not betray all of them. And than I saw Wa riding a horse and moving to me. Appearance, – this individual said – what triumph can cost! Probably Americans perished for liberty this day, but what did individuals redcoats perished for? Pertaining to ambitions of England, as well as for nothing more. Thus explained Washington. i do not know whether I did so right or wrong, although I know that there is no way back again. Nobody can declare now how this kind of war will probably finish. We am also old to fight this a a soldier, and so i was ordered to stay in Trenton and pretend that absolutely nothing has happened to escape revenge by our enemies. I continue living here with my family and i also am still trading products. Washington and his followers carry on and fight this war with tremendous braveness. Maybe they are going to lose, nevertheless they will still remain proper, so God bless all of them!
