Operational Management Theory of Constraints Essay

The idea of constraints is a managing philosophy that was developed by Goldratt in 1986.  It is based on identifying the limiting factors/constraints in a system which may impede it coming from achieving it is intended goals.  That states that for such a system to enhance, the restriction must be recognized and handled accordingly. Problem one. The cause of the backlog on the BCMC MRI clinic is because of the low productivity of the MR machine and the heavy overtime schedule which strains the MR technologist and leads to scanning of lesser sufferers per hour.  Although the machine is designed to produce one check out per hour, it is far from meeting this kind of target because of various limiting factors including poor connection between the individual and the medical center scan-scheduling office which has led to booking and overbooking of patients on the wrong occasions.  This has resulted in the clinic having too many sufferers which it can be unable to manage. Question two. The major trouble of this method lies in the clinic’s booking department making so many errors when arranging the sessions for the patients’ scanning.  This system unlike previous MRI services does not take care of the scheduling leaving every one of the workload towards the scheduling section and this has proved to be quite stressful for them. Question three. According to the radiology division manager, the clinic should consider hiring one more MR technologist to ease the pressure on the present technologist and improve the lead-time.  Additionally , the clinic should consider presenting another switch may be in the early hours of the evening in order to make certain that more sufferers are dealt with per day. In addition to the above advice, as Kevin and/or David i would recommend more incentives be provided with to Jeff the MR technologist for each and every extra time this individual puts in.  This would motivate him to function more therefore maximizing the quantity of scans he performs daily and it will help a great deal in reducing the backlog.
